Politics

I'm sure this one has been floating around but I thought it was kinda cute.

WAY over the top a bit stupid but there are some funnies

http://www.palinaspresident.us/

In a related political report
http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,433314,00.html

Lots more interesting tidbits but

"It might not fit the simple template for a 36-year veteran of the Senate to not understand what vice presidents do (after all, eight vice presidents have served with him), but Biden knew less about this than the political outsider, Sarah Palin. Given that they are running to be vice president, why didn’t that story dominate the news coverage after the debate?"

My thoughts are:

We lived through Dan Quayle

Which way am I voting?  I still don't know.

As for the other votes... most will be against the incumbent... good, bad, or especially indifferent, we need to start over.

700 Trillion

814,000,000,000

814 billion payout to the businesses

 303,824,640

303 million July 2008 population Estimate per cia.gov

 2,797.66

  Per person in the USA

If congress has paid the people the cash rather than giving it to big business, we could have had a "trickle up" effect.

People pay off the loans that the banks are calling bad.
Banks could then pay off their bad debts
the economy would be 'stimulated' as people would spend the extra.

You know and I know very few people would save the cash.

But we all know what happened. Congress is mainly rich people, with a minimum of Very UPPER middle class if that.
They have a 'responsibility' to help out the other rich ones (bankers, brokerage companies).
That is who pays their 're-election fund' anyway.

Daughter pointed me to this.

A really interesting post about Obama
Not about the Democrats or Republicans just a view in why so many are listening to Obama.

http://eyebrowsmcgee.blogspot.com/2008/03/so-heres-thing-about-obama.html

To quote my daughter, "I really liked this post about Obama, by Koi (aka Eyebrows McGee). She is a lawyer and a Christian theologian and has always struck me as an intelligent person, which I think comes through in this particular post."

It is a good read.

Book to read

I just finished an interesting yet chilling book.

Under our laws in the US today a doctor can SELL tissue collected from you to anyone.

If someone buys that tissue and uses it to develop a test or a gene therapy they can then PATENT it.

THEY can OWN the cells in your body.

Right now under the copyright laws you have more rights to a picture taken of you than you do to your own body.

Tell me that is not a chilling thought.

The book that brought this to my attention is a fictional book by Michael Crichton. The title of the book is "NEXT"
Most people know the name from Jurassic Park and Congo. Possibly The Andromeda Strain.
Some might know that he created the TV show ER.

There are some other "fun bits of information.

The universities and colleges that are doing gene research?
They get tax dollars to help in their funding. They also get to patent and SELL items that they discover.

So they get the free money from the government and they get the profits from any sell. Nothing needs to be paid back to the government
Nice little scam racket setup they got there huh?

Did you know that the patent office will issue patents on genes? Those little things that make up everyone and everything. Someone may own one of the genes in you.

Right now that only stops other groups from using it for research. You know like the three patents filed for the SARS genome. That stopped EVERYONE from working on it until they decided who owned it. You remember that nasty bug that killed all those people?

Just wait until they take to making you license the genes you carry. well and pay royalties on them. No need to test you they tested your parents or your brother or sister. Now cough up the cash or get hit with a lawsuit.

And hey your Dad died of liver problems? Well sorry to tell you but the report got to the insurance company. they canceled your policy (pre-existing conditions). what? You have no problems. Wait, and you will. but we can't cover you because of the pre-existing conditions of you being born as the son of a man that got it.

All in all a good book that will make you think, like most of his stuff.

Christopher Titus

DVR’ed Christopher Titus on Comedy Central a few days ago. I liked his first show Christopher Titus: Norman Rockwell Is Bleeding and figured this one would be good too.

http://imdb.com/name/nm0864541/

This one is called Christopher Titus: The 5th Annual End of the World Tour.

As usual he is funny from the beginning.

“My daughter was born in August 25 2001, then came Sept 11 2001. I am going on the theory that it was a coincidence. terrorism, War, disease that we can’t cure, hurricanes, tsunamis, spinach, France. It’s the end of the World Checklist. Pope John Paul didn’t die, he pre-boarded.”

“Mad cow disease, I got to be afraid of (bleeping) cows now? When did it become, Lions, Tigers, and Cows, Oh my. And Canadian cows. I feel like such a puss.”

“Packaging on Paxil an anti-depressant. May cause suicide. So you take a Paxil, feel a lot better and then blow your brains out. but the suicide note will be INSPIRING.”

“Martha Stewart is a convicted felon, and they gave her another TV show. What’s next the “Scott Petterson Fishing hour?”

“We are spending 400 billion in Iraq and the Iraqis seem so appreciative, Don’t they? Explain that to your kids. Well honey, in some cultures blowing people up with a Pinto means, ‘Thanks for the Freedom’. Why didn’t we just send Sadam a Mad-Cow burger and a Paxil.”

“My daughters five. She is now asking all these questions that I don’t know how to answer. ‘No honey, I don’t know how Tu’Pac has been dead for 10 years and is still putting out better albums than Justin Timberlake.”

That was the first 10 minute of the show.

“Our president is a Texas oilman and we are paying $3.00 a gallon.”

Very entertaining.
